Wind Tunnel Testing

FondTech's three wind tunnels were originally designed for the automotive sector, but are easily adaptable for use in a wide range of areas, including industrial and sporting purposes, where aerodynamic testing is vitally important. Whatever the application, we're willing to help you solve any problem in our first-class facilities.

Scale Model Automotive Testing

Having three wind tunnels means FondTech can simultaneously provide high-performance automotive manufacturers with our services. The FT2 and former Aerolab tunnel are suitable for 50% and 60% scale models, while our original facility is used for lower-budget programmes and non-automotive purposes.

Bicycle Testing

ForcePad is an exclusive platform designed by FondTech for the road bicycle market and sport teams. ForcePad is a force measuring system specifically created to accommodate a full scale road bike and cyclist in FondTech’s Wind Tunnel test section.

The ForcePad platform, the wind tunnel and the riders work in synergy for recreate the original “on road” condition. The system will be able to measure the drag force on bicycle and cyclist at given wind speed and yaw angle.

The FondTech 2 and Aerolab wind tunnels are the largest and most recent tunnels at FondTech's disposal, and feature state-of-the-art systems and devices for high performance automotive wind tunnel testing.

Our first tunnel – FondTech 1 – was built in the early 1990s and paved the way for many successful racing car developments. It is now used for lower-budget programmes and non-automotive applications.

Wind Tunnel

FondTech's three wind tunnels were created and developed primarily for automotive applications, although they are perfectly suitable for a wide range of non-motorsport uses. The level of customisation is enhanced by the capability to develop any dedicated in-house hardware and software systems that might be required.

Bicycle Testing - ForcePad

ForcePad is FondTech's new system and has been purposely designed and built for non-motorsport customers.

ForcePad represents FondTech's entry into the road cycling market, with many leading road and track bikes increasingly tested in wind tunnels for detailed performance analysis. ForcePad is a force-measuring platform used to accommodate full-scale road bikes and riders in FondTech's wind tunnel. The system measures the force of drag acting on the bicycle and cyclist at various wind-speeds and yaw angles.

Because ForcePad is marketed to both amateur cyclists who want to validate their aerodynamic posture as well as professional racing teams who constantly look at methods to improve their athlete's performance, its range of applications is huge. Furthermore, ForcePad can also be used in developing the shape and geometry of frames, wheels and accessories in order to reduce drag.

ForcePad has been entirely developed by FondTech, and has been designed through a process using CFD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Construction techniques are similar to those in motorsport, with composite materials and precision engineering techniques such as CNC frequently used.
